My Cat Family

I'm a cat person.  I finally convinced my mother to be a cat person when I started adopting strays at her house.  She lives in an area of town that is secluded and people would drop stray cats and dogs off on her street.  Some people are so cruel.

We adopted a mother cat (Miss Kitty), which had four litters of kittens in two years before we got her fixed.  We kept two of them, my friend kept two, four were given to a foster home to be adopted out to a new family and two died.

Our little Miss Kitty died last week.  Her two sons miss her terribly...so does my mother and I.  They are outside kitties but they are our still our kitty children.

This is Miss Kitty.  She looks like she is just posing for this picture.

I have two cats that live with me.  Both were strays.  My Sadie was left on my street by her mother...she apparently got lost from her mother and of course, I had to take her in.  She was so small and needed someone to take care of her.  She's not small anymore...she weighs 15 pounds.  When I brought her into my home, I had 3 siamese cats.  They have sinced passed away.

My other cat, Milo, was left all alone when his family moved away and didn't take him with them.  He was cared for by a friend of mine from work and he said he couldn't keep him.  When he told me what he looked like I said of course...bring him to me!  He's a long-haired cat, with seal-point siamese cat coloring and he weighs 25 pounds.

So you can see, I have 40 pounds of cat bodies on my bed some nights.

Here's their pictures:

I hope you enjoy your visit my family.

A pet always gives you un-conditional love and devotion...something we all could learn from!

Until next time!

Playing Tourist in Nashville, TN

One bright April day, my mother and I played tourist in downtown Nashville...my hometown.  We visited the replica of Fort Nashborough and James Robertson's home on Charlotte Avenue in West Nashville.  James Robertson is credited with being the founder of Nashville.

Reenactors were participating with an Open House at Fort Nashborough on that day.  The Fort has not been kept up by the city and they wanted Nashvillians to become aware of what we have in our downtown area.  The present Fort was reconstructed by the NSDAR in the 1930's.  It is not on the original site.  At present, the Fort is closed for repairs.

We have another Fort in Nashville in the community of Goodlettsville.  It is a wonderful site and in a beautiful park.  It is called Fort Mansker.  Visit it if you can.  I hope the people in charge of Fort Nashborough would take a hint from Goodlettsville and make Fort Nashborough better!

In doing research for my genealogy, I have discovered that I had ancestors here during the early days of Fort Nashborough.  It was fun just walking around the buildings that are there and trying to imagine how my ancestors might have lived and what the river might have looked like to them when they traveled up and down it.  The river was one of the main thoroughfares during their time.  Very few trails had been cut through the wilderness.

The James Robertson home is also a replica.  The replica of his home is located in H G Hill Park in West Nashville.  The former location of the James Robertson home is a now a main road around Nashville.  This photograph is from a 1907 newspaper article.

I hope you enjoy the pictures I have taken.  But remember, it is in a downtown area and there are modern conveniences in place inside of the fort.

Doris Luttrell Home in Northern Alabama

We finally got a chance to travel to Alabama on Saturday to Doris Luttrell's Open House and Primitives Sale.  She has invited us down for many years but we always had something else going on when she was having her Open House.

Doris is a very talented artist and designer and paints on anything and has such a creative mind for coming up with the most unique sayings.  We have had the opportunity to participate with her in a number of shows that have been held in Tennessee.  The dealers at these shows all become good friends because it is a lot of work but we all still have time to visit and check in with our friends to see what is going on in their lives.

Mike and Doris moved into their home about 4 years ago.  They designed it to look like an old Alabama farm house.  They have tall ceilings and a center hallway.  They've used horizontal boards for the walls downstairs and old doors wherever possible.   And believe me...it is just wonderful.  Doris has the gift of putting anything together and it just works.

Here's some of the pictures I took on Saturday.  I'm not a professional photographer by any means but at least I do have a pretty good camera that helps overcome my shortcomings!

ENJOY!
